About CrossPulse

The CrossPulse Ethnic Drum Ensemble began in 2000 as a supplimentary program to the Percussion Department at Music/Arts Institute.  A generous donation by founder and President Millicent Daugherty provided for additonal instruments.  The primary focus of the ensemble was to expose students to the drumming traditions from around the world, and to teach in a manner consistent with how most of the world's drummers learn - by listening and playing (we use no written music).

The development of the ensemble was a natural extension of Jon's learning during graduate school, where he had the opportunity to work and study with some of the finest percussionists in the world, including Yousif Sheronick, multi-instrumentalist and master hand drummer.

All skill levels are represented in the ensemble and we strive to develop rhythmic understanding and musical confidence through a variety of improvised and planned rhythmic units.  Each member of the ensemble is a soloist as well as an ensemble member!  We invite you to come explore the fascinating world of global rhythm and become a member of our ensemble.
